The West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) Offshore Safety Committee on Wednesday, November 14th, 2023, held its annual meeting at Ikeja, Nigeria.

The WAGP Offshore Safety Committee was established in 2012, after the pipeline was breached, to ensure efficient and effective collaboration between the key stakeholders in the marine environment to secure the safety and protection of the pipeline, a key asset for regional energy security.

The Committee is composed of members from naval authorities and representatives of maritime bodies from the four WAGP States of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and Benin.

This year’s meeting focused on updates on measures being implemented to secure the pipeline and discussed emerging issues and strategies to address this.

Representatives from the navy, maritime and port authorities, WAPCo, and WAGPA attended the meeting. The Benin Chief of Naval Staff, Captain Jean-Léon Olatoundji, also attended.
