WAPCo is committed to providing a socio-economic impact to our stakeholders and our host communities. We conduct our business in a socially responsible a and conduct our operation in an environmentally sustainable manner. WAPCo engages in corporate social investment through the partnership with host communities, community development projects, and livelihood program.

Communities


WAPCo’s Community Relations policy within its areas of operation is aimed at establishing proactive partnerships that will foster healthy, long term relationship with host communities.

Host Communities

WAPCo’s host communities have been identified as those located within a two kilometer radius of on-shore facilities, namely, the pipeline, the Regulating and Metering (R&M) Stations and the Compressor Station. In all, a total of about 54 communities were identified as having been impacted by WAGP construction activities. The table below illustrates a breakdown of WAPCo host communities by country

Community Development Program

In 2006 WAPCo rolled out Community Development Program (CDP). The focus of the CDP was to promote development of host communities. The program focused on identifying critical needs and high yielding community investment strategies to meet the infrastructure development gaps in the communities

Community Health Outreach

WAPCo collaborates with health institutions and health professionals to provide free general health screening to residents in host communities. the health outreach program is one of several impactful investments WAPCo has made in its host communities.

Livelihood Program

WAPCo in 2012 introduced its Livelihood Program for host communities. This was based on the outcome of a study to assess the needs of the community. The programme has two components; a Scholarship Scheme and a Community Youth Enterprise Scheme.

Community Youth Enterprise Scheme

WAPCo’s Community Youth Enterprise Scheme provides young persons in their host communities who have completed basic education but cannot pursue further studies due to financial constraints the opportunity to learn a trade of their choice in recognized vocational and technical institutions in Ghana.

Scholarship Scheme

The scholarship scheme supports, brilliant but needy students within our host communities to pursue an education at various levels.
