WAPCo MD Headshot

From 11–13 February 2026, WAPCo’s leadership team will be in Rabat, Morocco, participating in a high‑level regional workshop focused on the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project (AAGP). Formerly known as the Nigeria–Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP), the AAGP is a landmark transcontinental infrastructure initiative designed to connect West African gas reserves to North African networks and onward to European markets.

Spanning approximately 7,000 kilometres, the AAGP brings together the West African Gas Pipeline Extension Project (WAGPEP) and the Nigeria–Morocco Gas Pipeline Project (NMGP) into a single integrated system. The project is expected to play a transformative role in strengthening regional energy security, driving economic growth, and reshaping Africa’s energy landscape.

The Rabat workshop will explore potential areas of collaboration between AAGP and the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). Discussions will focus on WAGP’s possible involvement in the project, identifying technical and commercial synergies, and defining a clear commercial strategy for alignment.

WAPCo will be represented at the meeting by Managing Director Abbey Bodunrin; General Manager, Commercial and Business Development, Rahul Kumar; General Manager, Operations, Abubakar Bello Gwadabe; Superintendent, Operations and Maintenance East, Ing. Benoni Owusu Ayeh; Manager, Engineering and Maintenance Manager, Patrick Osad Eronmwon and some members of the Commercial and Business Development team.

Morocco’s delegation will be led by Amina Benkhadra, Director General of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), while Nigeria’s delegation will be headed by Ahmad R. Khalid, General Counsel and Company Secretary at NGIC. Members of the AAGP Steering Committee, the project’s primary governance body, will also be in attendance.

As part of the programme, WAPCo will present an overview of the WAGP system, highlighting its short‑, medium‑, and long‑term business focus, with particular emphasis on areas of technical and commercial integration with the AAGP.
