WAPCo Champions Regional Energy Integration and Growth at NOG Energy Week 2026

The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) reinforced its role as a key enabler of regional energy integration and economic development at the 2026 NOG Energy Week, one of Africa’s premier energy industry gatherings, held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The conference brought together policymakers, regulators, investors, and industry leaders to discuss strategies for strengthening energy security, accelerating natural gas development, and supporting sustainable economic growth across Africa.
One of the major announcements at the event was the launch of the NNPC Gas Master Plan 2026, an ambitious initiative aimed at expanding domestic gas utilisation, increasing LPG availability, supporting gas exports, and strengthening regional gas infrastructure, including the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) also announced a reduction in petroleum project permit approval times to 24 hours, signalling a more investor-friendly environment and improved ease of doing business.
Representing WAPCo, Managing Director Abbey Bodunrin participated in a panel discussion titled “Maximising Gas Export Potential – Regional Integration for Meeting Global Demand.” He highlighted the West African Gas Pipeline as a successful example of regional cooperation, demonstrating how shared infrastructure can connect energy resources across borders while supporting economic growth and energy security.
Bodunrin emphasised that the 678-kilometre pipeline continues to serve as a strategic platform for regional integration, made possible through the collaboration of the governments of Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana, together with WAPCo’s shareholders and stakeholders. He noted that maintaining operational excellence, reliability, and a secure gas supply remains essential to unlocking new opportunities for growth and regional development.
The Managing Director was accompanied by Victoria Inemesit Akpan, General Counsel; Harold Sedolo Nounagnon, Operations Coordinator, Cotonou; Adindu Egwim, Lead Business Finance Specialist; and Gabriel Okoye-Chine, Lead Compressor Station Operator.
WAPCo’s participation at NOG Energy Week 2026 reinforced the strategic importance of the West African Gas Pipeline in advancing energy security and economic development across West Africa.
