Royal Fathers Commend WAPCo at Livelihood Programme Induction
WAPCo has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable community development with the induction of a new cohort of beneficiaries into the 2025/2026 WAPCo Livelihood Programme in Nigeria. The Livelihood Programme is, a flagship CSR initiative focused on empowering young people through education and skills acquisition.
Now in its 14th year, the WAPCo Livelihood Programme remains one of the company’s key community development initiatives. For the 2025/2026 cycle in Nigeria, the programme admitted 115 scholarship students and 31 skills trainees, bringing the total number of beneficiaries for this cohort to 146 across WAPCo’s host communities in Nigeria.
The two‑day induction ceremony drew strong endorsement from royal fathers and community leaders, including the Kabiyesi of Ajido, Oba Adamson A.T. Saheed; the Imeke King (represented by High Chief Sunday Olalekan Ayedogbon); the Onitetiku‑Olu of Owode Otta, Awori Kingdom, HRM Oba Wasiu Akanni Ogungbayi; and the Olota of Ota (represented by Oba Abayomi Bashorun Seriki of Ota).
Speaking at the event, Oba Adamson A.T. Saheed expressed appreciation to WAPCo’s Management for sustained investment in host communities, noting that education‑focused initiatives play a critical role in shaping the future of young people and strengthening community resilience. He encouraged beneficiaries to honour the opportunity by committing themselves to excellence in their academic pursuits and vocational training.
The induction brought together beneficiaries and parents, community representatives, youth leaders, and WAPCo officials, including Mark Mensah, External Relations Manager, and members of the External Relations team. During the session, beneficiaries were briefed on the programme’s structure, expectations, and standards of conduct, reinforcing accountability and shared responsibility for success. Beneficiaries also engaged actively through interactive discussions, asking questions and sharing feedback.
A parent, Mrs. Bola Adeniran, expressed heartfelt appreciation to WAPCo, describing the scholarship scheme as a life‑changing intervention that has brought relief and renewed hope to many families within host communities
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to beneficiaries, followed by group photographs. In recognition of WAPCo’s sustained positive impact on community development, HRM Oba Wasiu Akanni Ogungbayi presented WAPCo with an Award of Excellence and Appreciation.
Through the Livelihood Programme and other CSR initiatives, WAPCo remains committed to empowering the next generation and strengthening the social and economic fabric of its host communities.
