On September 23, 2025, the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) proudly celebrated the presentation of scholarship awards to 48 outstanding students from its host communities in the Shama Municipality. The ceremony, held at the Riverside Conference Centre in Shama, marked a significant milestone in WAPCo’s ongoing commitment to education and youth empowerment across West Africa.

Since the inception of the WAPCo Scholarship Award Scheme in 2012, the company has continually invested in the future of the region’s brightest minds. This year, 68 students—35 males and 33 females—were selected for the 2025/2026 cohort, with 48 hailing directly from the communities of Aboadze, Abuesi, Dwomo, Lower Inchaban, and Shama. These scholarships enable recipients to pursue higher education in diverse disciplines at Ghanaian tertiary institutions.

WAPCo’s dedication to supporting education is reflected in the significant financial commitment made this academic year: GHC631,584 allocated to new scholarship awardees, with total disbursements for continuing students reaching GHC1,336,284. Overall, WAPCo’s investment in Ghanaian students for 2025/2026 stands at an impressive GHC1,907,604.

This commitment extends beyond Ghana. Through the Livelihood Support Programme—encompassing both scholarships and the Community Youth Empowerment Scheme (CYES)—WAPCo has positively impacted 3,244 beneficiaries across Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo, with a total investment of $4,786,885.38. In Ghana alone, $951,600 has been invested in scholarships and $213,600 in CYES, benefiting 710 individuals.

Among the many inspiring journeys are Christopher Amoasi and Blessen Adwoa Essilfie-Konglo. Christopher, a previous scholarship recipient, graduated with First Class Honors in Law and is set to be called to the bar. Blessen, from Abuesi, is on her way to becoming a Doctor of Optometry and has actively volunteered in WAPCo’s community programs. These stories exemplify the transformative impact of WAPCo’s investment in education.
